The Red Devils are reportedly open to selling Rashford next month, with his mammoth wages squeezing the club’s finances and his underwhelming form making them increasingly difficult to justify. The 27-year-old was left out of four consecutive matchday squads by Amorim before making it onto the substitutes’ bench for the game against last night (Monday).

The issue of Rashford’s future is a delicate one. He was born and raised in Manchester, graduated from the club’s academy in 2015 and racked up 30 goals across all competitions in 2022/23.

But the club are reportedly concerned about his lifestyle choices, and some fans are becoming frustrated with his mediocre goals return. One banner unveiled from the United end before a 4-3 Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat at earlier this month read: “EXCUSES TA RA MARCUS”.

Now, a larger pool of supporters have had their say. And an overwhelming majority of United fans who responded to Express Sport‘s survey have called for the club to flog Rashford.

Of the 4,529 respondents, a staggering 84 per cent of them decided that United would be better off selling their one-club man, with only 16 per cent backing them to keep him.

While the writing appears to be on the wall for Rashford regarding his future at Old Trafford, serious questions remain about his next destination. Paris Saint-Germain and were both credited with interest during the summer, but they are not expected to make a move for him in January.

Any Saudi Pro League side thinking of swooping for Rashford will need to sell players first, with all of 18 them having maxed out their quota of foreign stars over the age of 21.

And his wages – thought to be in excess of £300,000 a week – would be enough to make any suitor think twice before pulling the trigger. Rashford has scored four goals in 15 games this season, and he only managed seven last campaign.

Amorim claims to pick his squads based on what he has seen in training that week. When he was asked at Wolves on Boxing Day whether Rashford had shown him anything different since being left out, he said: “If he’s not here, you can make your mind up.”
