may need to get creative in the transfer market at the start of reign amid budget restrictions imposed by the financial rules. The Red Devils are walking on thin ice after years of reckless spending and will likely target cost-efficient signings over the next year.

With the winter window open for business tomorrow, Amorim could utilise the free agent market to secure his maiden first-team signing at Old Trafford.

Express Sport looks at four players across Europe who are entering the final six months of their current deals and are available to sign a pre-contract agreement in January.

Jonathan Tah

United need a physical, quick right-sided centre-back to share the workload with Leny Yoro on that side of Amorim’s defensive three.

and Harry Maguire are more suited for the central role, while Noussair Mazraoui is a natural full-back.

Jonathan Tah could fit the bill as he approaches the end of his contract at Bayer Leverkusen, although Barcelona and Bayern Munich are most heavily linked.

At 28, he’s in the peak of his prime and would be an upgrade on United’s current options.

Alphonso Davies

Alphonso Davies has been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford in recent months, with Real Madrid also at the forefront of speculation.

The 24-year-old is out of contract at Bayern in the summer and could pursue a fresh challenge away from the Allianz Arena.

A new left-wing-back is at the top of Amorim’s transfer priorities, given Luke Shaw’s continued injury woes and Tyrell Malacia’s struggles since his return to fitness.

Davies would be a statement signing, but the chances of him landing at United without Champions League football on offer are next to nothing.

Angel Gomes

Angel Gomes has been thriving since leaving United as a free agent in 2020, having rejected the club’s offer of a contract extension.

The 24-year-old midfielder has made 129 appearances for LOSC Lille, scoring nine goals and registering 19 assists.

His performances earned him his first four senior England caps during Lee Carsley’s interim reign, but he is currently sidelined through a long-term injury.

United will need fresh energy in midfield, with Casemiro and Christian Eriksen’s futures uncertain. Gomes could also operate as one of the two attacking midfielders in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.

Jonathan David

Marcus Rashford appears destined for the exit door, Joshua Zirkzee doesn’t seem to fit Amorim’s preferred profile of striker, and has potential but isn’t scoring often enough.

United need a new striker, and Jonathan David could be a shrewd addition amid an impressive season alongside Gomes at Lille.

The Canadian forward has registered 17 goals and five assists in 26 appearances in all competitions this term, including four in six in the Champions League.

Aged just 24, David would add to United’s youthful attack and offer a fresh goalscoring outlet.
