Luke Humphries and Luke Littler.
Luke Littler’s path to a second successive World Darts Championship final has cleared after Peter Wright’s stunning victory against world No. 1 Luke Humphries on Sunday night. A new world champion will be crowned on the Alexandra Palace stage later this week after Humphries slumped to a shock 4-1 defeat in the fourth round.
Wright joined Gerwyn Price as the first two players to book their place in the quarter-finals after the Welshman’s 4-2 win over fellow compatriot Jonny Clayton.
Littler will look to join them this evening when he meets the dangerous Ryan Joyce, who has already dumped out two seeded stars in Danny Noppert and Ryan Searle.

Gerwyn Prices shares Ally Pally crowd concern
Gerwyn Price he’s afraid the Alexandra Palace crowd will turn on him if his World Darts Championship run continues.
The Welshman has been well supported so far throughout his wins against Keane Barry, Joe Cullen and Jonny Clayton.
Now he’s in the quarter-finals, Price joked that he only had the crowd’s backing because he hasn’t been at his best, despite a victorious campaign thus far.
He said: “I have never had it so good. I appreciate it. I don’t know if I have to keep playing bad as they might get on my back if I play well.
“They are a bit better to me this year and that helps me through games when you are not playing so well.”

midfielder James Maddison has at an angry fan after he was pictured enjoying the darts at Ally Pally on Sunday.

Peter Wright one to watch
Sky Sports Darts pundit Laura Turner has branded Peter Wright as one to watch in the world title picture after his victory over Luke Humphries.
She said in the Ally Pally studio: “Write Wright off at your peril! He blew Humphries out of the water!
“Humphries didn’t do a lot wrong but Wright found the breaks at the right time. It was an exceptional all-round performance.
“He must have felt great and if he has more gears, wow, watch out the rest.”
Peter Wright starts Luke Littler mind games
Peter Wright hailed Luke Humphries after his win in the World Darts Championship fourth round, claiming no player would’ve been able to beat him in a longer format.
That includes Luke Littler, who was projected to face the world No. 1 in the semi-finals…
“I felt more confident playing Luke over this shorter distance,” Wright said after his win.
“If I didn’t beat him in this round, I believe he would have retained his title, because I don’t think any other player would have got close to Luke over a longer distance.
“Luke [Humphries] and Luke [Littler] inspire me to carry on playing darts, and I know I can still play this game.
“I felt like I struggled throughout the whole game tonight. I’m over the moon with the result, but I know I can get better.”

Luke Littler spotted mocking himself
Luke Littler couldn’t hold back the tears after his record-breaking second-round victory against Ryan Meikle earlier in the month.
But he was more composed after beating Ian White 4-1 on Saturday, mocking his own tears as he celebrated with his mum.
Of course, Littler has a job to do against Joyce. He may have to then beat Nathan Aspinall, Peter Wright or Stephen Bunting, and Michael van Gerwen to win the world title.
That said, you can imagine Luke Humphries’ shock exit didn’t do morale in the 17-year-old’s camp any harm…

“There’s a long season ahead of me. We have another 12 months before we come back here and do it all again, but I want to win more in between that,” Humphries .
“I’m not looking towards next year’s World Championship yet, but when we’re back here next year, of course I would love to get my title back.
