Experts have questioned the real reason behind the South Korean plane crash that killed 179 on Sunday.

A Boeing plane from Bangkok crashed and after attempting to land at Muan International Airport. The only two survivors were crew members.

The current theory is that the plane sucked a bird into its engine and the jet’s landing gear apparently failed to deploy.

However, this has already come who suggested such a tragedy shouldn’t have been caused by a “not unusual” issue.

Airline News editor Geoffrey Thomas raised several questions about the crash. He asked Reuters: “Why didn’t fire tenders lay foam on the runway?

“Why weren’t they in attendance when the plane touched down? And why did the aircraft touch down so far down the runway? And why was there a brick wall at the end of the runway?”

“A bird strike is not unusual, problems with an undercarriage are not unusual. Bird strikes happen far more often, but typically they don’t by themselves.”

Australian airline safety expert Geoffrey Dell added: “I’ve never seen a bird strike prevent the landing gear from being extended.”

He said the plane’s engines wouldn’t have shut down right away after sucking in a bird, giving the pilots time to mitigate the impacts.

He and Australian aviation consultant Trevor Jensen expressed their confusion as to why after hitting the runway.

Shortly before 9am local time, the control tower at Muan International Airport issued a bird-strike warning while the Boeing was attempting to land.

One minute later, the pilot sent a distress signal asking to land in the “opposite direction of the runway away from the control tower”.

By 9.03am, into a wall past the runway, killing 179 out of the 181 people onboard. The two survivors are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
