A unique McDonald’s restaurant left people astounded – as it allows customers to up to the counter to order their favourite meals.
The fast-food chain, known for its innovative outlets, has a branch in Sweden dubbed ‘McSki’. This eatery is located high in the mountains at the Lindvallen Ski Resort in Sälen, Sweden’s largest ski resort.
Instead of a traditional drive-thru, this McDonald’s offers a ski-thru service. Despite opening in 1996, McSki only recently gained recognition after a video online went .
The clip shows a woman skiing up to the window, placing her order and then skiing away with her food. A viral video has captured the moment a ski enthusiast couldn’t resist her fast-food cravings, even on the slopes.
Wrapped up against the cold with ear muffs in place, she skis right up to the ‘drive-thru’ window.

The video was shared on by , with the caption: “POV: you are craving fries while skiing… McSki, Lindvallen Ski Resort, Sweden. The world’s only Ski-Thru McDonald’s!”
People rushed to comment on the viral video, with one describing the venue as “perfect”. “I’ve tried it,” said another. “You need to go here,” a third said as they tagged their friend to which the friend excitedly replied. “I’m coming.”
But, not everyone was enamoured with the idea of a mountainside McDonald’s. One critic said bluntly: “An absolute NO. People eat enough junk without having it on the mountain as well.”
Another lamented the lack of quality. They said: “One of the best parts of skiing in the Dolomites was the fantastic food in the huts on the slopes. So much better than the c**p at American resorts, let alone McDonald’s…
“I’m sure the food on the slopes in Sweden is fantastic too!” A third chimed in with a preference for Austrian ski fare: “Nope – I ski in Austria where we eat real food.”
For those who aren’t keen on a snowy McDonald’s experience, there are other unique locations worldwide. In Maine, US, customers can enjoy lobster rolls and McNuggets in a luxurious setting complete with sophisticated tables and a grand fireplace at the so-called McMansion, considered one of the most upscale McDonald’s globally.
There’s another high-end McDonald’s in New York which left fans astounded. This former mansion, now restored into a lavish fast-food restaurant, boasts a grand staircase, a glass conservatory, and luxurious booths for dining.
The historic property has housed various restaurants in the past and even served as a funeral home. The largest McDonald’s is located in Orlando, Florida, while Rome hosts a McDonald’s with hand-carved statues at its entrance.
In New Zealand, there’s a unique McDonald’s serving food from a decommissioned aeroplane. A McDonald’s in Hamburg, Germany, has been dubbed “the coolest in the world”. It’s the only floating McDonald’s, known as “McBoat”, which launched in 2015, offering a one-of-a-kind ‘drive-thru’ experience for kayakers and boaters.
