shared his true thoughts on the finale as his co-star made a confession.
The final episode of the hit sitcom came up in conversation during Monday’s edition (December 30) of , hosted by Richard and .
Before shared her yearly round-up of entertainment news, Richard quizzed his co-stars on whether they sat down to watch Gavin and Stacey on Christmas Day.
“It was great,” Charlotte quipped.
Richard admitted he was sceptical during the first half of the episode as he was waiting to see when it would take off, however, was satisfied by the second half and ending.

Richard agreed before Charlotte pointed out that the beauty of television at Christmas is that everyone can tune in if they want.
In the final ever episode of Gavin and Stacey, viewers discovered that Smithy, played by James Corden, pretty much turned down Nessa’s (Ruth Jones) marriage proposal from the 2019 special.
Although Smithy never gave Nessa an answer, they hadn’t spoken about the proposal since it happened and .

However, Smithy came to his senses and ditched Sonia at the altar, rushing to find Nessa before she sailed away to start a new life overseas.

At a special screening for the cast and crew, recounted the creative spark behind the finale’s opening, in which they made viewers believe Smithy had accepted Nessa’s proposal.
He said: “I called Ruth and I was like, I wonder if we could trick everybody into thinking that for the first six or seven minutes that they’re just going to watch a wedding between Nessa and Smithy.
“I remember so vividly having that chat with Ruth going, ‘oh, I wonder if we could pull that off. I feel like we did’.”
