is home to numerous holiday hotspots that have become extremely popular with tourists.

Many head to the continent for a safari, to explore some of the world’s most beautiful islands, or relax in stunning coastal towns.

One country that often flies under the radar for holidaymakers

The country offers an average temperature of 26C in January and highs can even reach the 30sC.

Senegal is also very affordable.

The Times called Senegal in 2022 the “most exciting package holiday” and spoke to Brits who secured a package for less than £1,000 all-inclusive.

Dakar, the Senegalese capital, is a noisy city and the main travel hub in the country.

But if a peaceful holiday is more your thing, you can head to Pointe Sarene. Located south of Dakar, the town look over the Atlantic Ocean off Senegal’s east coast.

The water there is turquoise blue, and the six-mile stretch of coast is situated next to a quiet fishing village.

Despite being two hours away from the capital, Pointe Sarene is well-developed for tourists thanks to its five-star hotels and huge villas.

A number of travel websites have compared Pointe Sarene to the Caribbean.

You can relax in the evenings and watch the sunset or even try some Senegalese street food in the village.

While Senegal is not welcoming as many tourists as its stunning landscapes deserves, it is becoming more and more sought-after. 

Phil Iveson, Tui UK’s commercial director, told the i that West Africa is becoming more popular.

He said: “We’ve seen strong year-on-year increases in demand for winter sun holidays in West Africa.

“In terms of passenger numbers, Sal in Cape Verde has seen the biggest uptick. The Gambia and Senegal bookings are up, too, more than 20% and 60% respectively this year compared with last.”
