2024 has been quite the year for the Royal Family, with plenty of highs and a lot more lows than usual.
While last Christmas everything did indeed look merry and bright, members of the public were left shocked when just a month later both the with the monarch having prostate surgery and Kate undergoing an abdominal operation.
Although reassured both their procedures went well, the public were then left shocked once more when the King confirmed he afterwards, just weeks later.
As both a royal fan and expert, I was left almost speechless by the news and the fact that both the King, and a future Queen, were undergoing cancer treatment. Like millions of others across the globe, I felt extremely sad for the family, the King and Princess Kate in what has
However, as Kate herself said in to mark the end of her chemotherapy, “out of darkness, can come light”.

The video released by the future Queen is by far for me the best royal moment of the year. Not only was the video a sign that things were looking up for Kate in regard to her cancer battle, it was also behind closed doors that really touched the soul.
While Princess Kate, and their three children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six, are usually seen at royal events all dressed up and waving happily to the public, this video felt like we were seeing them properly for the first time.
Instead of tradition and tiaras, we saw the family run through fields, have picnics, play on the beach and laugh with one another, just like millions of other families across the world. We also heard Kate talk about the important things in life and how she has felt, with an emphasis on the importance of “loving” and “being loved”.
While some did not agree with the video, which showed William and Kate – the future King and Queen – in such an intimate and personal manner as they hugged, held hands and even kissed on a day out with their children, I think the video said everything that needed to be said.

That at the end of the day, they may be the Royal Family, but they are also humans. They also feel pain and go through difficult times.
And after months of not only health battles for Kate, but also of speculation about her life, the video brought tears to my eyes as the princess was seen smiling and laughing with her nearest and dearest, showing her not just as a royal but also as a mother, daughter and wife.
In the words of Kate herself, light can come out of darkness, and the Royal Family really are letting that light “shine bright”.
While the King is still undergoing treatment for his cancer, he is well back into his royal engagements and seems to be in good spirits ahead of Christmas Day, which he will
To see both the King and Princess Kate together on the big day will, for many including me, be the perfect end to a difficult year for the monarchy.
