Several parts of Britain could be battered by -1C Arctic showers as live weather maps have turned purple for 12 hours. from WXCharts suggest a huge wall of snow will begin to enter the northern areas on December 30, bringing in unsettled conditions for around 12 hours.
Layers of snow is likely to get accumulated in around around Wick, Fort William, Portree and Inverness, the maps have suggested.
As per the weather maps, the temperatures will plummet to freezing -1C during the same period as snowfall continues in the region.
It comes days after the predicted a milder Christmas period for many parts of the country.
The ’s forecast for the period stated: “Rain in the northwest clearing southeastwards through Saturday. Then brighter, but colder, with blustery showers, and later rain and hill snow in north on Sunday and Monday.”

For the rest of the week, the forecaster explained that on Friday it’s going to remain cloudy for most overnight with outbreaks of rain and drizzle across parts of central and northern Scotland, with clearer spells in the far north of Scotland.
The low cloud across England and Wales will bring mist and fog.
Friday would be another cloudy day with mist and fog patches in England and Wales. Rain across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland. Brighter and chilly in the far northwest with isolated showers.

As we move forward, the explained. looking at the period between December 31 and January 9: “An erratic change from the mild and largely settled conditions of the past few days is expected. Rain, stronger winds and some snow already across Scotland may on Tuesday become more severe and start to push southwards through the middle part of next week, bringing a chance of snow to other parts of the UK, along with colder conditions more widely.
“A period of more settled weather then seems probable later next week, with a gradual recovery in temperatures to nearer average for the time of year, perhaps even mild.
“Beyond this, a fairly changeable picture is most likely although confidence in details is, as usual at this range, very low. Wettest/windiest weather in the north and west, whilst the south and east will probably remain more settled overall.”
