Top 10 most damaged used cars of 2024 give drivers unexpected repair bills

A new study has found the 10 cars that got into the most accidents on UK roads during 2024, with some models more likely to be damaged than free from .

Whilst accidents will always happen, drivers thinking about should be particularly careful that the model they are interested in does not have .

The vehicle history checking service highlighted that 18 percent of all analysed by the service had some form of damage that buyers may not be able to notice.

Matas Buzelis, motoring expert at carVertical, warned that drivers who unwittingly buy a could find thesmelves facing .

He warned: “Superficial damage is unlikely to affect a vehicle’s safety, performance or appearance, but more serious damage could cause problems that cost thousands of pounds to repair.”

According to a study conducted by carVertical, the most damaged model in the UK during 2024 was the BMW X5, with 50.43 percent of used examples listed over the 12-month period having some form of issue on their record.

Part of the German brand’s range since 1999, the BMW X5 offers a good mix of performance, refinement, and SUV-style practicality. However, whilst the latest version has a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, many have been damaged over the years.

Other premium models also ranked highly in carVertical’s study, with the Audi A1 coming 10th, with 29.74 percent of used examples having recorded damage.

Another vehicle that carVertical warned has a large likelihood of damage is the Dacia Logan MCV, a range of low-cost estate cars sold in the UK from 2012 to 2020.

The company’s study found that some 37.5 percent of used examples listed during 2024 featured some form of damage on their record.

This is possibly due to the low price point of the Logan MCV, with drivers more likely to treat one as a cheaper used car.
