Scott Williams was furious with a camera operator during his epic victory over close pal . The 34-year-old knocked the 2018 Ally Pally champion out of the tournament in the second round.
Williams – who won 3-1 – had admitted before the match that he had become too caught up in the emotions of their encounter on the same stage two years ago. Having endured a wobbly start, the World No. 37 revealed that it was actually an issue with a Sky Sports camera which caused a problem this time around.
“What put me off was one of the cameras was moving whilst I was going for the double and I could see it in my eyeline,” Williams said afterwards after Cross also appeared to complain about the camera mid-match.
“Whether the guy was a new guy and didn’t know what he was doing, I don’t know. That put me off a little bit and I wasn’t happy about that. I expressed my feelings and it was sorted from there.
“But I probably should have won that 3-0. I probably could have won it 3-0. Whether I should have is a different matter. He (Cross) missed doubles and he gave me a chance. When you get given the chance, you have to take it.”
Williams also refused to comment on a lewd gesture made by Cross towards the crowd at the end of the match. Voltage has been criticised over the incident but Williams insists he will not wade into the debate about what his opponent meant by it.
“Firstly, I wasn’t aware of anything. Secondly, regardless of what he did, I don’t really care. I’ve just played one of my best, closest pals for £10,000. There’s not many people who have done that, so I’m not bothered at what he did,” he said.

“We had a chat before and we had a chat afterwards. I love him and he’s great. We’ll see each other over Christmas and over the next couple of months and whatever he’s doing and we’ll be exactly the same.
“I’ve got to pop round his house to drop off the Christmas presents for the kids and I’ve got to pick some up for my kids. That’s how close we are.
“But I’m not there to be an a*** to someone that isn’t an a*** to me. He didn’t give it massive. You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do and, if the person in front of you is giving it, you give it back. It’s a tough game.”
