After 17 years since its debut, Gavin and Stacey is set to conclude with a much-anticipated finale episode tonight. Yet, Joanna Page, who plays Stacey Shipman, has sparked excitement among fans by hinting at the possibility of more to come from the beloved series.
Joanna suggested there could be a spin-off centred around Neil ‘the baby’, now an adult. She expressed enthusiasm for the idea but emphasized that any such project should be penned by the original creators, James Corden and Ruth Jones.
Speaking to The Sun, Joanna said: “A spin off series would be fun, I think the curiosity would be very high. But only if it was to be written by Ruth and James.”
The prospect of a spin-off isn’t just Joanna’s wishful thinking; both Ruth and James have also expressed interest in exploring what lies ahead for their characters, Smithy and Nessa. On the Table Manners podcast with Jessie and Lennie Ware, James revealed: “We don’t know if we have another idea in us but I can honestly say that if we didn’t attempt to try and even explore the idea of writing together then I’d be so disappointed.”
As the nation eagerly awaits the Christmas Day episode, one burning question remains: did Smithy accept Nessa’s proposal?

Ruth teased: “The thing is, I think it would spoil it for you if we told you what’s actually going to happen. I think you’re just going to have to go with the flow and ride those emotions.”

When questioned about the long-standing mystery surrounding the fishing trip between Uncle Bryn and Jason West, Ruth playfully revealed: “All we can say is it is not illegal in this country.”
Earlier this year, James had fuelled speculation about a character death, joking: “What we were editing today was a very moving and emotional scene at Bryn’s funeral. I’m joking, I promise. Or am I?” leaving fans wondering what’s in store for the final episode.
