A dead body was found in the wheel well of a United Airlines plane at Maui’s Kahului Airport on Christmas Eve.
United Airlines said the unidentified man’s body was discovered in the wheel well of one of the main landing gears on the Boeing 787-10 plane after it landed, the airline toldmultipleoutlets.
Flight 202 departed from Chicago’s O’Hare airport on Tuesday morning and landed at Maui’s Kahului airport in the afternoon.
HuffPost has reached out to the Hawaii Department of Transportation, United Airlines and Maui’s Kahului Airport for comment.
Authorities said it’s currently unknown how or when the person accessed the wheel well. According to the airline, the wheel well was only accessible from outside of the aircraft.
The Maui Police Department said in a statement to local news outlet Hawaii News Now that its “currently conducting an investigation” regarding the incident.
“At this time, no further details are available,” the agency added.
