Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou will be keen to improve his squad in January
boss needs to rebalance and strengthen his squad in the January transfer window to have any hope of mounting a late European challenge. Inconsistency has plagued their campaign, with Postecoglou’s side sitting tenth in the table.
was the only player Spurs signed in the summer who was over the age of 20 at the time of his arrival. Postecoglou boasts some excellent young players, but they will need experienced heads around them to develop.
Express Sport takes a look at a dream January window for the north Londoners.
Angel Gomes and Jonathan David seal free transfers
England star Gomes and Canadian forward David are both out of contract at Lille. Spurs have been linked with both players.
Gomes worked his way into the England squad this year with his impressive performances in France. The 24-year-old is finally realising the potential he showed during his formative years at , where he debuted aged only 16.
A technical midfielder who can play in a number of roles, Spurs would benefit from having a player able to link the defence with the likes of James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.
Meanwhile, David has emerged as one of Europe’s most consistent goalscorers. The 24-year-old has already bagged 17 goals this season and has scored 26, 26 and 19, respectively, in his three previous campaigns. Spurs need a broader range of scorers and David would be an excellent addition on a free transfer.
Both players could discuss free moves with Spurs in January ahead of completing their switch in the summer. Alternatively, sporting director Johan Lange could attempt to seal a cut-price deal to land both players next month.

Underperforming duo ditched
Spurs have plenty of players who have not quite contributed enough over the past few seasons. Postecoglou’s very public dressing down of Timo Werner was particularly telling given that the Australian is usually keen to defend his players to the media.
Werner could head for the exit, particularly if more forwards are signed next month. Yves Bissouma may also make way for further reinforcements.
When Spurs’ midfielders are fully fit, it feels unlikely that Bissouma would win a place in the starting 11. An upgrade on the Mali international could be another priority.
Could Timo Werner leave Tottenham after Ange Postecoglou’s public criticism?
Marcus Rashford…?
Rashford seems set to leave , whether in January or next summer. Of all the possible destinations, Spurs could be the best place for him to kickstart his career.
Postecoglou would provide the necessary man-management and, in turn, would benefit from the 27-year-old’s versatility across the forward line. Rashford would be an exceptional signing for the north Londoners.
