Met Office’s final verdict on white Christmas as weather maps reveal snow is days away

The has dashed any hopes of a this year, declaring that snow is nowhere to be found across the UK.

Meteorologist Tom Morgan told : “It’s going to be a green Christmas.

“No snow, no frost, just mild and cloudy conditions throughout the country.”

saw unseasonably warm temperatures peaking at 15.2°C in Cassley, Sutherland, while the lowest was a mild 3.5°C in Wattisham, Suffolk.

Mr Morgan added: “Great news if you have travel plans, with no weather warnings or disruptive weather expected. But certainly not great news if you’re hoping for a festive, wintry feel.”

Christmas Day is set to follow suit, with mild temperatures and overcast skies dominating the forecast.

“Most places will have a dry and cloudy day,” Mr Morgan said.

“A few areas might catch a glimmer of sunshine, but those will be rare.”

Northern Scotland will face windy conditions with gales and rain, particularly in the far north, while other regions remain calm.

Boxing Day brings more of the same mild, cloudy weather with pockets of brightness, especially in northeast England, the Midlands, and parts of the Shetland Isles.

While the festive period remains snow-free, a hint of winter’s return looms on the horizon. Mr Morgan said: “As we approach the New Year, cooler and wetter conditions could develop, increasing the chance of some snow.

“It’s too early to say where that snow might fall, but it’s something to watch.”

For now, the UK will have to settle for a mild and green Christmas, trading frosty landscapes for travel-friendly weather and cloudy skies.
