Helen Worth, a staple on our television screens for an impressive five decades as Gail Platt in since 1974, is bidding farewell to the beloved cobbles. Her character’s swansong is set to be a Christmas Day spectacle, with Gail hoping to tie the knot with her new beau Jesse (played by John Thomson).
However, in ‘true’ Weatherfield fashion, viewers can expect a twist in the tale.
Gail’s romantic escapades have been nothing short of a rollercoaster on the Street. Should she successfully say ‘I do’ to Jesse, he will be her seventh spouse, crowning her as the soap’s most-wed female.
Off-screen, Helen Worth’s own romantic life is considerably more serene. She’s happily married to school teacher Trevor Dawson, who is seven years her junior.
The pair, who met at a mutual friend’s 90th birthday bash, have often spoken about their instant connection. Reflecting on their relationship during a 2021 appearance on This Morning, Helen couldn’t help but beam: “I met Trevor about 10 years ago and I just thank my lucky stars really. He’s just gorgeous.”

The couple exchanged vows in 2012 at St James’s Church in London, with a host of Helen’s colleagues in attendance. At the time, the actress expressed her joy: “It’s been the most fantastic day, it has exceeded all expectations. We are thrilled that so many of our friends and family could be here to celebrate with us.”
Helen’s first marriage was to the voice that brought Thomas the Tank Engine to life, Michael Angelis. They exchanged vows in 1991 but their union crumbled ten years later when Michael admitted his infidelity.

Their marriage hit the rocks four years in when he confessed to an affair after catching wind of a newspaper’s intent to spill the details. Reflecting on that period, Helen shared with the Mirror: “The pictures were about to be published and he knew he had to tell me fast. He just said he was having an affair. I went through every emotion. I was hurt. Then angry. So angry. I tried to tell myself it wasn’t happening.”

Despite efforts to repair their bond, the couple eventually parted ways in 2001 upon the circulation of more incriminating photographs featuring Michael and his lover, Jennifer Khalastchi.
However, Helen and her former spouse maintained a friendship until his passing in 2020.
