Man Utd have to resolve Marcus Rashford’s future.
prospects in the January transfer window are bleak amid limitations imposed by UEFA and the financial rules. The Red Devils are walking on thin ice after splurging over £600million in less than three years to fund failed project.
But if Ineos can continue their ruthless streak to raise funds through much-needed player sales, some space could free up for incomings at Old Trafford.
Express Sport looks at three things that should happen at the start of 2025 to help direct ‘s rebuild in the right direction.
Marcus Rashford sold
United have reportedly slapped a £40million price tag on Marcus Rashford, who seems destined for the exit door.
Amorim has excluded the 27-year-old forward from his last three squads, and he has publicly admitted he is “ready for a new challenge and the next steps.”
Where Rashford could end up is a mystery, and a permanent transfer is a far more likely proposition in the summer than the new year.
But if United could fast-track the inevitable and raise some funds from his sale next month, that cash would go a long way in bolstering Amorim’s squad instantly.

Luke Shaw replaced
Luke Shaw has only managed a few appearances this season, with no starts, after starting the campaign injured and suffering a setback earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Tyrell Malacia looks nowhere near the level required since returning from an 18-month spell on the sidelines.
Amorim’s need for a new left-wing-back is obvious, and recruiting one in January would be a significant boost, given the importance of the role in his 3-4-3 system.
Whether the right candidate will be available midway through the season remains to be seen, though. It’s not a position you can acquire the perfect fit for cheap, which could pose another hurdle.
More Ineos ruthlessness
Altay Bayindir, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Antony and Rashford.
Those are eight names who, albeit brutally, wouldn’t particularly be missed if United shifted them in the January transfer window. Honestly, there could be more.
Ineos and have attracted plenty of attention for their ruthless decision-making off the pitch to cut costs and reshape United’s club-wide operations.
Amorim could do with the Red Devils’ hierarchy showing the same level of determination when it comes to moulding the playing squad to his liking at the earliest opportunity.
