Princess Alexandra turns 88 today.
Christmas Day has always been a special celebration for the but even more so for one member in particular.
the cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II, was born on Christmas Day and celebrates her 88th birthday today.
She married Sir Angus Ogilvy in 1963 and had two children: James, born in 1964, and Marina, born in 1966. Her husband sadly died on 26 December 2004 after several years of illness.
While she has only been spotted out twice this year, , the princess remains a crucial and much-loved member of the family.
As well as carrying out several engagements over the years, Alexandra – the daughter of Prince George, King George VI’s brother – was also one of the late Queen’s best friends, with the Alexandra stepped up for the late Queen on engagements that she couldn’t attend, both in the UK and abroad, and even stood by her side at a number of events, including Trooping The Colour and state banquets.

Most importantly, the princess was someone the late Queen could confide in and trust.
In the 2021 documentary Princess Alexandra: The Queen’s Confidante, royal commentator Daisy McAndrew said: “After Princess Margaret’s death, Alexandra was the

The princess was believed to be one of the late Queen’s best friends
Alexa said: “Queen Elizabeth and Princess Alexandra have been inseparable for years at royal engagements, and it’s apparent that they share an extremely special bond.
“Alexandra was even the Queen’s bridesmaid at her wedding, and since has been a close confidante throughout [the Queen’s] life.”
The late Queen was believed to be very fond of the princess and even hosted a celebration in honour of Princess Alexandra’s 80th birthday in 2016.
Since Queen Elizabeth II passed away in 2022, Alexandra has been at several royal engagements. The princess was spotted just last week attending a pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace on Thursday, marking her second appearance of the year.
