Former US president Bill Clinton is reportedly now safely on the mend after being rushed to hospital

The veteran US politician was admitted to Georgetown University Medical Center on Monday afternoon for testing and observation after developing a fever, with his former deputy chief of staff, Angel Ureña, sharing the worrying news on social media.

An unnamed source told NBC News at the time, that the situation was “not urgent” and that he is recovering at the Washington D.C. hospital. They continued: “The former president will be fine. He developed a fever and wanted to be checked out. He is awake and alert.”

Thankfully, their assessment appeared to be correct, as Clinton has now been discharged from hospital just in time for Christmas, where he will continue to recuperate at home.

Sharing the good news, once again Angel took to social media to let the world know that the former President was now on the road to recovery.

“President Clinton was discharged earlier today after being treated for the flu,” he announced online. “He and his family are deeply grateful for the exceptional care provided by the team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and are touched by the kind messages and well wishes he received. He sends his warmest wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season to all.”

The worrying health scare was just one of several to befall the former world leader, since he stepped down from office in 2001.

The 78-year-old, who was among the party grandees backing ‘ unsuccessful bid for the presidency in November, has faced other health scares since leaving office.He underwent quadruple bypass surgery after experiencing prolonged chest pains and shortness of breath in 2004, was hospitalised with a partially collapsed lung in 2005 and had two stents implanted in a coronary artery in 2010.

The latest scare comes after Clinton shocked viewers by his appearance and tone during a speech at the in Chicago this summer, with commentators suggesting that “his voice [has] weakened” and he “does not sound good”.

Clinton responded to ill-health following his exit from the White House by embracing a vegan diet that saw him lose weight and report a boost to wellbeing.

He was also hospitalised for six days in California in 2021 for an infection reported to be unrelated to . An aide to the 42nd president said he had a urological infection that spread to his blood stream but that he didn’t go into septic shock and hadn’t received intensive care.
