Going to Vancouver airport or McArthurGlen on Boxing Day? Plan ahead

Lots of air travellers will be coming and going on Dec. 26, and so will hordes of Boxing Day shoppers at the outlet mall

The Vancouver airport is advising travellers — and shoppers — to expect heavy traffic and possible delays on Boxing Day.

That’s not just because Dec. 26 is one of several busy travel days over the holidays. The area around Vancouver International Airport is also swarmed with people heading to Boxing Day sales at the nearby McArthurGlen outlet mall.

In anticipation of the chaos, YVR is offering the following tips for those headed to or from the airport and mall on Thursday:

• Boxing Day shoppers are also urged to take Canada Line. McArthurGlen is steps away from Canada Line’s Templeton Station. Drivers are warned to expect delays getting to and from the designer outlet centre.

Police, traffic management personnel and temporary signage will be in place to direct drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. Everyone on the road is asked to follow directions from flaggers and obey posted signs.
