has been told he can “do it all” by winning the Australian Open on his comeback.
The Australian is preparing to return from a two-year injury layoff, and Mats Wilander believes Kyrgios can become the first player to tick every box.
It’s an unusual prediction, especially because the Big Three have won everything in the sport – Grand Slams, Olympic medals and tournaments at every level.
Kyrgios has been sidelined for the last two years, playing and losing just one match in a failed attempt at a comeback in June 2023. He battled knee and wrist injuries, having surgeries in both areas.
The 29-year-old is finally making his return at the Brisbane International next week before heading to Melbourne for the Australian Open, his home Grand Slam tournament and the first Major of the season.
Kyrgios has been close to Grand Slam glory in the past – he reached the final in 2022 but lost to – and Wilander wants to see him lift the trophy on home soil to prove that he can be a jack-of-all-trades.
“I think Nick has revolutionised the sport in many ways. Players are actually using part of his arsenal or his repertoire,” the retired Swedish tennis legend told .

“Now, here’s another statement, if Nick goes out, and he plays his absolute best tennis, and if he wins the Grand Slam, I believe maybe for the first time ever, a single player would have ticked every single box that you can tick.”
Explaining what he meant, the seven-time Major winner added: “He is competitive, the level is high, the mental attitude is brilliant, the repertoire and the variety of crazy shot-making and the jokes he cracks, no one has ever done it all.
“Nick Kyrgios has a chance to do it all.”
Although Wilander was referring to Kyrgios’ personality and ability to bring tricks to the court, his comments won’t go down well with the likes of Djokovic, and , who have truly ticked every box.
All three men have won every Grand Slam tournament multiple times. Djokovic and Nadal both have Olympic gold medals in singles while Federer has one in doubles.
The Serb and the Swiss star also have several ATP Finals trophies and all three have dozens of Masters 1000 titles, with Djokovic winning all nine.
They have also reached the top of the rankings and have all achieved the year-end No. 1 spot. Even has won a tournament at every title – Slam, Olympic gold, ATP Finals, Masters 1000s and ATP 500s and 250s.
Meanwhile, Kyrgios has seven singles titles, all across ATP 500 and 250 levels. He has also won a doubles Grand Slam at the 2022 Australian Open and reached a career-high of No. 13. But there’s no doubt plenty will be excited to see him back on the court in Australia next week.
