Jeremy Clarkson gives health update as he reveals downside of ‘relentless’ battle

has opened up about the challenges of his drastic lifestyle overhaul following life-saving heart surgery earlier this year.

The , 64, star has ditched the booze and swapped indulgent meals for a strict diet of steamed fish, vegetables, and water as he works to improve his health.

Despite his successful journey with sobriety, Jeremy has lamented the impact it has had on his general enjoyment, joking that it has led him to focus on other frustrations.

“It’s not even as if I can balance the books by getting high on my own supply, because I’m off games at the moment. I can’t even enjoy the meat. I just have to stand there, nibbling on a vegetable and sipping water, like an animal,” he said.

He added, “The relentless sobriety means I’m able to deal with some of the other issues that crop up when you own a pub. Such as the fire officer who says that the neon ‘Farmers’ Clubhouse’ sign needs its own switch, which must be located outside the pub.”

Jeremy sought emergency medical attention after experiencing worrying symptoms, including feeling “clammy” and having “pins and needles” in his left arm. Tests revealed one artery was completely blocked, while another was nearly closed, putting him at severe risk.

Reflecting on the turning point, he said, “When the Grim Reaper poked his nose round the door, I decided that actually, I quite fancied living a little bit longer. I want to see my grandchildren grow up. I saw the dawn this morning and it was magnificent, so I’d quite like to see a few more of those too.”

He continued, “Also, I still want to visit the Galapagos Islands. To achieve this, I must live on water and steamed fish and exercise.”

The former host said the warning signs appeared while he was on holiday, struggling to walk up the stairs after a brief attempt at swimming. This prompted him to overhaul his lifestyle, including cutting out many of his favourite foods.

“To cut my alarmingly high levels of cholesterol, I need to cut out, completely, everything I like eating. Bacon, sausages, beef, lamb, pork, butter, chips, proper milk, Cadbury’s fruit and nut bars and the interesting bit in an egg,” he shared.
