The Doctor Who Christmas special is set to be a highlight of Christmas Day viewing, packed with wild escapades and familiar guest stars.

The ‘s iconic sci-fi series has undergone another transformation, with actor Ncuti Gatwa stepping into the role of the fifteenth Doctor Who, ready to save the world from danger in the Tardis time after time.

Now, the 32-year-old actor is gearing up for some festive fun, with plenty of tantalising details being revealed ahead of the episode’s release this holiday season.

Doctor Who Christmas special start time

The Doctor Who Christmas special, titled Joy To The World, is scheduled to air on Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25, at 5.10pm on One and iPlayer.

The episode will only be available to watch from this release time onwards on the streaming platform, meaning fans won’t be able to preview it ahead of time on iPlayer.

Leading the cast is ‘s Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa, who took over as the new Doctor Who in last year’s Christmas special.

He’ll be joined by guest star Nicola Coughlan, known for her roles in Derry Girls and Bridgerton, who plays Joy, a woman who checks into a London hotel and discovers a secret entrance to the Time Hotel.

The hotel uses this to offer stays throughout history, leading Joy to encounter “dinosaurs, danger and the Doctor”.

Other notable cast members include Trollied’s Joel Fry, Good Omens’ Jonathan Aris and Casualty’s Julia Watson.

Indeed, a trailer has been unveiled ahead of the episode, hinting at a series of thrilling escapades for the Doctor and Joy.

A snippet also revealed that ex- star Millie Gibson will be reprising her role as Ruby Sunday in the upcoming season 15.

Moreover, it’s been disclosed that Villengard, a past foe of the Doctor, will be stirring up trouble for the Time Lord.
