Tiger and Charlie Woods celebrate the youngster’s hole-in-one.
made sure he got a dig in at son Charlie despite . Woods Jnr provided the highlight of the weekend at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, acing the 176-yard, par-three fourth hole.
That was to the obvious delight of his father, who smiled as he gave him a big bearhug on the tee.
The pair went on to finish joint first after 36 holes with Bernard and Jason Langer, with both teams 28-under par.
But it was with an eagle on the first extra hole. However, afterwards, the talk was dominated by 15-year-old Charlie’s incredible feat.
His dad wasn’t about to let him get carried away though, saying: “It was awesome, don’t get me wrong. But he’s 15…it’s about time. I had my first ace when I was six.”
The 48-year-old was smiling ironically as he made the jibe, and also spoke about how much he enjoyed the competition. The hole-in-once came just moments after Charlie had notched his first ever eagle on the third.
Tiger and Charlie finished second after a play-off.
“It was one of the highlights that we’ve ever had,” said the 15-time major champion. “On the hole previous he made his first eagle and now he just made his first hole-in-one. It was a magical two-hole stretch – I’m just so happy for him and the enjoyment we had as a family. It was a lot of fun.”
Charlie admitted he was initially unsure if the ball had dropped. “It was a perfect seven-iron, so I just kind of hit it,” he told the Golf Channel broadcast. “Down off the left, a little cut seven. It was awesome. I didn’t think it went in. I don’t believe anybody until I go up there and see it.”
It was the second time Tiger and Charlie had finished runners-up in the annual tournament. In 2021, the pair finished just behind John Daly and his son, John Daly II.
And remarkably, they weren’t the only team to bag an ace on Sunday. Around 30 minutes after Charlie’s feat, Paddy Harrington – the son of three-time major winner Padraig – also made a hole-in-one on the eighth hole.
The PNC traditionally features 20 major champions playing with a member of their family. The latest version was Woods’ first competitive event since undergoing more surgery on his back in September.
