Death In Paradise fans have spotted a huge problem
Devotees of the hit crime series have spotted a rather peculiar inconsistency within the show’s beloved Saint Marie police station.
The hub of investigation is undoubtedly the bustling police station, but sharp viewers have picked up on a peculiar detail that seems to be a regular occurrence across episodes. The issue in question has been experienced by each island detective from DI Richard Poole (played by Ben Miller) to his succession of DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall), DI Jack Mooney (Ardal O’Hanlon), DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little), and the upcoming DI Mervin Wilson played by Don Gilet.
Fans have taken to social media to voice their confusion over an event that takes place nightly: when the station closes and the officers head off for some relaxation at Catherines bar or return to their abodes.
One fan queried online about the fate of the prisoners held overnight, “What about any prisoners who are in the cells? They seem to be left there in the dark with no access to food or drink or the bathroom facilities and unable to contact anyone if there was a kind of emergency.”
Death in Paradise is back for a Christmas special
This detail sparked a cascade of reactions with many fans admitting that this had never crossed their minds. A few even declared that this had somewhat “ruined” the series for them, as highlighted by Wales Online.
The much-loved television series, Death In Paradise, is filmed in the picturesque Guadeloupe, not the fictional Saint Marie. The on-screen police station is actually the Presbytery of the St Peter and St Paul church in Deshaies, reports .
Deshaies also serves as the backdrop for the series’ Honore town. This quaint fishing village on Basse-Terre island even offers guided tours for fans eager to immerse themselves in their favourite show’s setting.
The police station is the centre of the drama!
However, fans may be disheartened to discover that the detective’s iconic beach shack, home to Harry the lizard, isn’t a permanent structure. Instead, it’s rebuilt each season on Anse de la Perle Beach.
For those based in the UK, a trip to Beyond Paradise’s Shipton Abbott might be more accessible. The charming Cornish town of Looe doubles as Shipton Abbott, which is supposedly located in Devon.
