North is on a mission to bring adventure junkies and thrill seekers to visit the region thanks to its new attraction.

The “largest of its type in the world”, plans have been lodged by to open up this new site.

It is hoped that this new ride, with planning documents submitted to Cyngor Gwynedd revealing the ride’s name to be The Swing, will bring more tourists.

The Swing is a riding device that swings back and forth with the picturesque landscape of the Penrhyn Quarry site in Bethesda as its backdrop.

This new attraction looks to address the steady decline has been felt among visitors in the surrounding area with Zip World making plans to help “continue to be relevant and attract new and repeat visitors”.

According to the ride’s economic assessment, the planned ride works as a “unique product with its selling point of being the largest of this type of attraction in the world”.

The new attraction is being brought into the north Wales site in order to “stay relevant” and help attract new and repeat visitors.

The plans quote figures claiming the business brings £276m into the economy.

Zip World added: “It is also less susceptible to high winds than the zip line and would provide a bad weather alternative.”

The attraction’s location will be within the Zip World’s existing quarry site which is south-west of Little Top that expands across the quarry lake towards the south-east gallery floor.

The ride works by using tensioned cables that traverse the quarry between anchorage points.

These points are fixed in place by pairs of upright steel columns on concrete pad footings.

According to plans, the ride sees visitors being taken on foot from a “kit-up tent” to a lower anchorage point.

Visitors are then escorted up a ramp, onto a landing and into a cart and then transported to a swing platform hanging from cables when they are then secured into the swing apparatus which moves horizontally away from the platform.

The swing then falls under gravity around a pivot point until coming to a natural rest, and then moves back to the platform for the next thrill seeker.

Whilst on the ride, “unique panoramic views” are on display for all with the ride also offering “heritage interpretation”.

“In order to continue to be relevant and attract new and repeat visitors, Zip World recognise the need for them also to evolve.”

They added: “The proposed swing development has been brought forward following an observation by the applicant of a decline in visitor numbers at the site between 2023 and 2024.”
