Bridgerton star Ben Miller has confessed he was stunned by how erotic the hit series is.
The Death in Paradise actor, 58, portrayed Lord Featherington in the period drama and was killed off in season one. Reflecting on the role, he has admitted there was more “hanky panky” in the popular show than he was aware of.
During an episode of Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh, aired on December 21, the actor appeared as a guest alongside Moira Stewart and Anita Dobson.
Prompting the actor to discuss his career, host Alan joked: “You have made one mistake in your life that I do want to point out.”
He continued: “Being in Bridgerton, which has become this enormous great sucess.” Alan went on to note that Ben’s character “got killed off in the first season.”

This sparked Ben to confess his “shock” upon watching the series. He said: “Not only that but I had no idea. See, what I thought I was in was a sort of Jane Austen drama.
“Because I was placed as the sort of father figure of this family, bit of a ne’er-do-well and all I did really was sort of peer out from behind a newspaper at various drawing room goings on.”
The actor continued, exclaiming: “I had no idea all that hanky panky was going on behind the scenes because I was not involved in any way, in any of those storylines.
“When I watched the show I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe it. Shocked. Because as far as I was concerned it was a very sort of gentile Jane Austen-like, sort of very well-behaved.”

Chiming in to share his verdict on the beloved drama, Alan critiqued its plant knowledge, saying: “I really want to love it but that wisteria drives me nuts. I mean it flowers every single day of the year – here comes a December shot with snow and the wisteria is in full bloom, I can’t do that.”
Wisteria has become an iconic plant in the Shondaland show.
Ben has previously hinted at his character’s revival in the story. Earlier this year, he told Good Morning Britain: “I never saw him die – and that’s the crucial bit on TV. We didn’t see him die. We saw him with some ruffians and then he just wasn’t there.”
Bridgerton is set to return for its fourth season in 2026, following a wildly successful third season which premiered this May.
