Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk clash again tonight
Boxing fans are rallying behind Oleksandr Usyk to triumph over Tyson Fury in tonight’s heavyweight clash, potentially taking the series 2-0.
The two first squared off in a thrilling match in May this year, which saw Usyk defeat the ‘Gypsy King’ by split decision. This victory crowned Usyk as the first undisputed heavyweight world champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999. Despite being the favourite to win again, there are still many who believe Fury has the potential to unseat the Ukrainian sensation.
Thousands of our readers have cast their votes on the fight’s outcome, with a clear winner emerging. Fifty-three per cent of voters think Usyk’s skill will overpower the ‘Gypsy King’, while 45 per cent believe the Brit will even the score in Saudi Arabia. Interestingly, only two per cent of voters predict a draw, given the anticipated closeness of the fight. While the majority support the undefeated 37 year old Ukrainian, Fury is sure to have his say.
During a tense face-off on Thursday night, the Brit was keen to issue a stern warning to his forthcoming opponent. “He’s getting f***ed, I was 50 per cent last time, you were the best you’ve ever been and you still couldn’t do s***,” he said. “You couldn’t do f*** all. Don’t you be afraid you rabbit looking f***er. I won’t leave you alone. You ugly little b******. I’m butchering you. You are going to wake up in the hospital you clown. You got a gift decision you clown. I’m the man, I’m the f***ing champion.
“You ugly rat b******. You are a rat. I’ll beat you seven days a week.” As for Usyk, the Ukrainian will once again be hoping to put on a show. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “I feel good. It continues, the 13th round because I feel like this. Tyson Fury too had a chance in the sixth round, maybe the seventh round, maybe 12th, 11th, first, second. But Tyson did not do it. It’s just talk. Tyson said I had the chance. Yeah, no problem.”
Meanwhile, Fury is being backed by his promoter Frank Warren to knock out unified world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk in Saturday’s rematch in Riyadh. Fury left immediately after scaling a career-high 20stones 1lbs at the weigh-in, although he was fully clothed and wearing a heavy leather jacket when he stepped on to the scales.
Usyk, the WBA, WBC and WBO champion who won the first contest on a split decision, also kept his clothes on and weighed 16stones 2lb, the heaviest he has recorded. After the rivals had engaged in a stare down for 11 minutes 20 seconds at Thursday’s head-to-head press conference, the final face off lasted only a few seconds before Fury turned away.
The 36-year-old then left sharply, leaving Queensbury Promotions boss Warren to answer questions. “It’s going to be a war tomorrow (Saturday). That’s what it is,” Warren said. “Tyson has come to get those titles back, that’s what he’s here for, that’s what he’s sacrificed a lot for and that’s what I believe will happen. You can analyse it how you like, the fact of that matter is we’re going to find out who is the best.
“And you know both of them are coming to fight. It’s going to be exciting. When that first bell goes they’re gong to get down to it and you’ll see something extra, extra special. In my opinion it will (finish inside the distance) – in Tyson’s favour.”
