Gavin & Stacey’s Larry Lamb says finale was so emotional he was ‘weeping’

Gavin & Stacey actor Larry Lamb has revealed that the finale of the comedy series left him ‘weeping’.

Gracing the set of Loose Women, the 77-year-old delved into details about the show’s Christmas comeback. After a five-year hiatus, viewers are on tenterhooks to see their favourite characters’ lives unravel as they come together one final time.

Sharing snippets of anticipation, Larry recounted his emotional response upon digesting the festive script: “I knew from the moment I read it, this is something special. You’re going to get thrown up into the air, over and over again. It’s absolutely extraordinary.”

He recollected reading with Alison Steadman: “I sat with Alison (Steadman), we were side by side and by the end of it the pair of us were weeping. It’s really so emotional.”

Probed by Loose Women’s Judi Love about what stirred such feelings, Larry elaborated: “The story, the storyline, it just emotes us like that. It’s a great story, the whole thing,” reports .

Reflecting on the reunion and passage of time, he was overtaken with nostalgia saying: “You know, with everybody there and you’ve all grown up together, you know when the youngsters were young and the oldies weren’t so old, yeah it’s extraordinary.”

At the Thursday (December 20) premiere of the highly anticipated Christmas special, the illustrious Ruth Jones – the writer who also embodies the iconic Nessa – admitted she felt “nervous” about the release and longed for the cool confidence of her on-screen persona.

She expressed her admiration for the character, saying: “What I love about Nessa is she doesn’t care what anyone thinks. I wish I could be a bit more like that in real life.”

Delving deeper into her connection with Nessa, she added: “I just love her directness. If I’m feeling nervous about something, I often channel my inner Nessa to be able to say ‘Oh, love, back off’. I just love playing her, I really do. I love the history of her life and the things that she’s done, which are quite phenomenal.”

The hit show Gavin & Stacey, which Ruth co-created with James Corden, first graced our screens on Three in 2007. Its soaring success soon prompted a move to One, cementing its place as a beloved British sitcom.

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV1.
