King Charles arrives at Buckingham Palace for Christmas lunch as three key royals absent

has arrived at Buckingham Palace to host his annual pre-Christmas lunch for the extended Royal Family.

Wearing a suit and a blue tie, the 76-year-old monarch waved to tourists gathered outside the Palace gates as he was driven into Monarchy HQ.

Sir Clive Alderton, the King’s private secretary, was sat beside him in the State Bentley.

It is understood that they are already in Norfolk – and always planned to be. A royal source said the Prince and Princess of Wales are looking forward to spending Christmas at Sandringham with the family, as usual.

Another person who won’t be attending today’s luncheon is , who pulled out of the event over the furore over his associated with an alleged Chinese spy.

He and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson had been invited to the annual gathering of over 70 royals, but the Duchess of York is understood to have persuaded Andrew that it was unwise to attend.

The move will come as a relief for King Charles as his younger brother has once again been thrust into the spotlight over a controversial business relationship.

Earlier this week, Andrew and Sarah bowed out of joining the rest of the Firm for the traditional Christmas gathering at Sandringham over the Duke’s relationship with alleged Chinese spy Yang Tengbo.
