Max Verstappen addresses Aston Martin speculation after Mercedes ‘talks’

has shut down speculation about a move to in 2026, insisting that no talks have occurred, contrary to reports earlier this summer. The Dutchman has spoken to regarding a switch to but remains committed to for the time being.

Verstappen’s contract with expires at the end of the 2028 campaign, but reports suggest that there are avenues through which the four-time world champion could leave the team in 2026, should they fail to provide him with a car capable of fighting for titles.

Reports emerged earlier this year suggesting that Verstappen was the chief target for Aston Martin in 2026 after the Silverstone-based squad completed the signing of Adrian Newey from earlier this year.

According to the Dutchman, no talks took place. “No, we haven’t talked about it at all,” he confirmed. “Nothing at all.” Confirming his position, he continued: “No. That is very clear.

“I know that in 2026, the rules will change, but to be honest, I’m not worried about it now. I’m still young, and a lot can change in the future. And I don’t just think about Formula One. Afterwards, there are a lot of other things I would like to do.”

While Verstappen has no plans to swap for a struggling Aston Martin team, he hasn’t ruled out joining rivals in the future. The Brackley-based team chased the 27-year-old hard after losing to , but their best chance of landing his signature will come in 2026.

“The big teams are always interesting, but on the other hand, I’m also in a very big team,” Verstappen told Viaplay when asked about interest from the Silver Arrows. “I’ve achieved a lot of success with them. It also just feels like a second family.

“Look, of course, we always talk to each other. And I don’t lie about the fact that we’ve sat together. We had very constructive conversations, I think everyone has always been very honest and open with each other.

“But on the other hand, I am also very loyal to my own team, and I just feel at home there. So, then, there is actually not much to achieve at the moment. I am still very young, so a lot can still happen in the future.”
