The UK may see snow on January 1.
Snow flurries are predicted to occur at the end of 2024, and now forecasters predict will also bring in the New Year.
Weather maps from WX Charts show large areas of the country smothered in snow.
In fact, at noon on January 1, the blanket may stretch down from Wick in northern Scotland to just north of Birmingham in the Midlands.
Meanwhile, most of Wales will be covered, as will Northern Ireland.
However, the official long-range forecast does not predict snow for this period, although it does note there may be some “frost and fog”.
:
Only southern and eastern England will escape the heavy weather according to WX Charts.
However, there is greater consensus over the weather in the lead-up to Christmas. Both WX Charts and the are predicting snowfall ahead of Christmas Day, although a White Christmas may not come to pass for many Brits.
Although unlike WX Charts, which predicts a dusting as far south as Birmingham on December 22, the says the snowfall will be restricted to high ground.
“A covering of snow is possible for some hills and mountains as far south as the Peak District by Sunday morning”, it said.
