The destination was followed by another two Welsh cities, Cardiff and Swansea. And although Cardiff is known for its lively cultural scene, it’s not a particularly family-friendly destination.

The Welsh capital is home to just 70 family-friendly hotels, and with only 85 attractions suitable for children, meaning it may not be the best location for any family looking for a lengthy getaway.

Following Cardiff, was Swansea, and while the city’s beautiful beaches may be suitable for nature-loving families, those looking for a city getaway may be disappointed with just 97 family-suitable hotels and 59 attractions geared towards all ages.

Alongside the lack of family-friendly attractions, all three of these locations have a rather steep price increase of 47% when it comes to peak holiday times.

These were followed by the two Scottish cities of Aberdeen and Glasgow, which also have a huge price increase outside of term-time of 31%.

Sharing the results of the study, Rhys Jones, travel expert at Go.Compare, highlighted Kent’s place at the top of the list, as he said: “Kent taking the top spot in our staycation index is surprising as it’s not often the first place that comes to mind when we think about holidaying in the UK.

“Destinations like Cornwall or the Lake District tend to be considered more. Despite this, Kent has quietly positioned itself as a fantastic choice for families, offering a range of accommodation and attraction options while remaining affordable.”
