A top motoring has urged road users to “think twice” located on and car dashboards.
The ECT (Electronically Controlled Transmission) power button is fitted on some vehicles to give motorists a quick speed boost.
The switch increases power by making small adjustments to the transmission’s shift points, making the car go quicker.
Some vehicles simply call this the ‘Sport mode’ which can usually be turned on using a dial on the centre console or through the model’s infotainment system.
However, Scotty Kilmer has warned turning on the mode could backfire on cash-strapped road users with fuel consumption likely to rise.

As well as burning more petrol and diesel, the tool could also “wear out” key components a lot quicker potentially leading to
, Scotty said: “Today I’m going to tell you why you might think twice before tuning on your ECT power button on a modern car.
“In this Toyota when you push the ECT power button it puts your electronically controlled transmission into power mode.
“Yes you get more power but you’re going to get worse gas mileage too.

“What it does is make your transmission shift at higher RPMs, the engine spins faster you use more gasoline.
“And with the price of gasoline these days you don’t want to use up more gasoline so my advice is only use that power button when you really need to.
“If you’re in a big hurry, to get out the way of a storm or something then go ahead but don’t make it normal practice or you’ll use more fuel and your engine and transmission will spin faster and also wear out faster.”
Motorists were quick to praise Scotty for his simple tip with many sharing how they use the ECT power switch themselves.
However, some were left baffled at the tip, suggesting they were not aware of what the tool was even used for.
