Tyson Fury ahead of his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk
skipped an interview last night as he remains laser-focused on his rematch with .
The two-time heavyweight champion is amped up for the sequel on Saturday night, looking to level his record against the Ukrainian and set the stage for a much-anticipated trilogy. Usyk established himself firmly in the boxing hall of fame by becoming the division’s first undisputed ruler since the legendary Lennox Lewis in 1999, after he served Fury his maiden professional loss through a split-decision.
All the rigorous preparations seem complete, with both fighters eager to step into the ring and battle it out in Riyadh. While Usyk exudes confidence, Fury has adopted an unusually intense demeanor ahead of the clash.
Last night, during their Grand Arrivals, the British boxer showcased his heightened focus, a departure from his typically animated pre-fight persona. Coming to the stage ahead of his opponent, when quizzed about what fans should expect come round 13, Fury boldly declared: “I’m going to knock him out! I’m going to give Turki (Alalshikh) what I promised him in May… a cooked rabbit in his kitchen. My promise! ” He further emphasized, “Favourite moment is getting my hand raised on Saturday night… and the new!”
Following their intense showdown, Fury conveyed a clear message that he’s all about the fight by making a swift departure from the Grand Arrivals event after his appearance. He was scheduled to talk to DAZN, but chose instead to exit promptly, suggesting he has no time for distractions.
His opponent, Usyk, on the other hand, did stop to chat with the streaming service. Asked if he intended to give Fury no respite this weekend, Usyk confirmed: “Yes, same again because it’s my plan. But maybe we do new work … we know a little bit because we [studied] each other watching the first fight. I have new secrets.”
Despite being dominated in their initial match, Fury remains bullish about his prospects of victory in Riyadh on Saturday, asserting: “When I beat him on the 21st there will be a third fight, 100 per cent, there has to be a trilogy.” Usyk playfully cautioned: “We will see… Don’t be afraid, I will not leave you alone again,” eliciting a mock-fearful response from Fury: “I am very afraid. Ugly little man. I’m going to get that on because we need that trilogy back in Saudi.”
