star Andrew Doyle has announced his resignation from his show Free Speech Nation, leaving viewers devastated.
In a poignant message on X (formerly Twitter) this morning, he broke the bad news. “After three and a half years hosting Free Speech Nation, tonight is my last show,” he wrote.
“Thanks to all at @GBNEWS and the many brilliant guests I’ve had over the years. See you tonight at 7pm!”
Fans wanting to catch the final poignant episode should tune into Sky 512, Virgin 604, Freeview 236, Freesat 216 or YouView 236. Andrew, who has recently penned his own book about the importance of freedom of speech, had previously said he appreciated that his show had allowed him to “delve deeper” into “potentially sensitive” political issues that “concerned” him.
Broadcasting had been the latest in a long line of diverse jobs for the much-loved TV host. In his past, he’d even worked in a call centre where he’d been a “punching bag” for furious customers.
:
On his GB News profile page, he revealed that he’d written “stage plays, radio drama, musical theatre, satire, political commentary, and so on” over the years, to “guarantee that I don’t get bored”.
“Other than writing, my sources of income have varied considerably. I’ve worked in a hotel as a waiter, in a hospital as a receptionist, and in a call centre as a punching bag for angry customers who hadn’t read the small print,” he continued.
He then “dabbled in academia” and became a teacher at a secondary school before leaving the profession to become a stand-up comedian, writing numerous scripts.
Politics had given him an outlet for his “frustrations” – but now it’s time for him to move on again.
