Returning Coronation Street serial killer’s ‘humiliating’ BBC Strictly Come Dancing flop

A Coronation Street actor has admitted that appearing on BBC’s was a “humiliating” experience for him. Brian Capron, who is best known for playing the role of evil killer Richard Hillman on the ITV soap, competed in the show back in 2007.

He was partnered with professional dancer Karen Hardy but the dancing duo were booted off the show in the first round of eliminations. Speaking about his time on the show, in a 2010 interview, Brian admitted: “Well the funny thing is it did do me a lot of good, because I did fail quite miserably and it was quite humiliating, horrible and embarrassing!”

Explaining his poor performance on the programme, he added: “It’s a question of remembering things, and on Strictly I was actually quite ill. I had the really horrible flu that was going round – and I just about got through the first part okay and then lost it in the dance-off.”

Brian’s portrayal of serial killer Richard Hillman means the star has often been declared as the most hated soap villain of all time. In 2018, he admitted that he still hadn’t dared to make any social media accounts over fears of the backlash he may face.

Speaking to the , Brian said that with the spotlight on celebrity social media accounts, he would “worry about how you appear all the time,” and would find it very difficult with, “everybody criticising you.”

Some 20 million people watched his dramatic exit from the soap in 2003 after he went on a killing spree and there has been a clamour for his return ever since – and the ITV soap could be bringing that to fans later this month.

Some of his past storylines included leaving his business partner Dougie Ferguson to die, murdering his ex-wife Patricia, kidnapping Gail, Sarah and David, and setting mother-in-law Audrey’s house on fire.

Gail Platt actress, Helen Worth, bows out in huge scenes on Christmas Day, with her wedding to Jesse Chadwick causing issues with her family.

Spoilers from the star’s final scenes have teased that an upset and exhausted Gail drifts in and out of sleep on the sofa, and has a surprise visitor.

According to multiple reports, her killer ex Richard Hillman makes a shock return for the episodes – with actor Brian Capron reprising the role after 21 years this time as a vision.

A source told the press: “The horrific scenes were massive at the time and Gail’s bad judgment in marrying ex Richard ended up being one of her biggest storylines, along with his reign of terror in Weatherfield.

“Of course, Richard perished but he is back from the dead and there will be scenes of dialogue between him and Gail. She is clearly still haunted by him.”
