Charlie Dimmock has been open about her feelings on marriage and why she has no plans to walk down the aisle.

It looked as though the Garden Rescue presenter, 58, had found the one when she met viticulturist John Mushet in the early 1990s. The couple lived in Hampshire after meeting in New Zealand and went on to embark on a 13-year relationship.

However, in 2001 after her affair with Ground Force microphone operator, Andy Simmons, came to light.

Although Charlie’s eight-year stint on the show was partially overshadowed by the scandal, the gardening expert admitted she has “no regrets” about how things turned out.

She previously said: “I don’t see Andy anymore, but I don’t regret what happened. You wouldn’t do anything if you kept worrying about what might go wrong.”

Despite having no regrets, the TV star admitted the initial split from John was difficult to process.

“John and I had been together for a long time so when we split up I relied heavily on family and close friends,” she told Daily Mail. “I’ve discovered that the most difficult after-effect of the break-up is getting into another relationship.”

Charlie revealed where she stood on marriage after her breakup with John, declaring “there’s no point” if you don’t have children.

“I’m past getting married anyway – I’m 42 and I won’t be having children,” she told The Telegraph in 2008. “I am of the opinion that without kids there’s no point to marriage.”

Charlie added: “I can’t even see myself living with anyone now because I get very irritated by people.”

And it appears Charlie’s view on the matter hadn’t changed almost a decade later when she discussed her love life with The Independent.

Speaking to the publication in 2016, the host said she had no intention of ever getting married.

Charlie remarked: “I’m way past marriage at this point. I’m going to be 50 this year. Even sharing a house with someone would be a no for me”

Explaining her decision, she added: “I like my own company. I like to do what I want to do, I’m very selfish like that. I don’t mind fitting in a bit, but I like to be able to get away and have the house to myself.”
