What could be the UK’s poshest motorway service station has no McDonald’s, Greggs or Starbucks – just delicious locally produced food sold in a farmshop.

Many Brits from the Midlands to near the Scottish border use the M6 to travel. In fact, the toll on the UK’s longest motorway

And while it is one of the most used roads in the country, many may still not be aware that it is home to what has been described at the UK’s poshest motorway services.

Tebay Services is located just north of Kendal and close to the Lake District. While many service stations feature fast food restaurants and coffee chains such as McDonald’s and Starbucks, Tebay has locally produced food sold in a farmshop.

The building itself has the aesthetic of a modern, country home with lights hung up outside. Just next to the services is a small, quiet lake with ducks living there – a great place for drivers can stop off to relax and enjoy their break.

The canteen inside sells eggs, sausages, bacon pies, and other classic farm shop grub.

A meal will set you back about £12 if you opt for a steak and ale pie with macaroni and cheese.

Gary Eats, a content creator on Youtube, visited Tebay Services and had one of the cottage pies.

He said: “Everything about it I like, just a little bit more flavour in the gravy…but bear in mind, I have dessert to come and that’s all for £11.95. I think that’s pretty good.”

Gary also tried some bangers and mash with gravy. After sampling the Cumberland sausages, he said: “They are excellent. I like the colour to them, but more importantly, it is the flavour. I think that’s excellent.”

Giving his final thoughts on the services as a whole, Gary said: “I like this place, for a services, not bad.

“Do you know what? I have been to worse restaurants than that, that was quite pleasant. It wasn’t reinventing the wheel…but it was made inhouse which I like.

“I like the setup here, I feel really relaxed, I like the scenery and the views outside and the service is excellent…it’s the best services I have been to.”

His overall mark was an 8/10.
