Gemma Atkinson’s heart broke as she updated fans on her family life. The former star shared the sad news of her dog’s death.
She fondly remembered her four-legged friend, Ollie, as she marked a second poignant farewell in just a few months – following the loss of her dog Norman. The grief-stricken Hits Radio presenter recently endured the anguish of losing Norman and has now been struck by a further blow with the passing of Ollie, as old age took its toll on her furry friend.
After receiving grave news from her veterinarian last week, Gemma devoted her days to cherishing moments with her beloved pet dog and on Tuesday (December 10), she shared the sorrowful news that Ollie had passed away, now joining Norman.
In a moving tribute filled with images and memories, the Bury-born celebrity expressed her sorrow to her two million enthusiasts. She wrote: “Sleep well beautiful Ollie. The most gentle, affectionate and loving soul. We knew deep down after Norman you wouldn’t wait long because you were inseparable and I know how much you must have missed him.”
She continued to reminisce about the devoted presence of her dogs over 14 years, considering herself fortunate, as she said: “The loyalty, love and companionship of 2 dogs for 14 years. How lucky I am to have had that.
Gemma Atkinson breaks down in tears as she says ‘it’s the price we pay’ in heartbreaking update
“Before Gorka, Mia and Tio it was just us, spending many a weekend in bed with a movie after a long walk exploring. And when our family expanded you shared your love and loyalty without hesitation, because that’s what dogs do.”
Gemma heartbreakingly added: “The sadness of losing you both so close together is a lot, but I know you’re both somewhere running free in long grass or on a beach chasing the tide care free, pain free and happy. That’s what I’m taking comfort in right now. I’ll remember you for the rest of my life. Norman and Ollie. My 2 best boys. Reunited.”
Gemma issued a further update on Wednesday morning (December 11), expressing gratitude for their overwhelming support during a time of loss. She shared: “I just want to say thank you for all your lovely messages.
“It’s been a tough few days but in between all that we’ve had Mia’s nativity, Christmas jumper day and today’s it’s our Mission Christmas Cash for Kids headquarters day so I’ve been really busy which is good.”
Reflecting on the difficult period and looking ahead, she continued: “Gorka’s back on Sunday which will be nice but thank you for your messages. It’s been tough but thankfully, I’m busy.”
Don’t miss… [UPDATE]
Gemma shared the news of her dog’s death
She continued: “Thank you for being so kind. I’m looking forward to Gorka being home as I can get in a routine again.
“Gorka’s home soon so that’ll be a massive help. I can get back to my daily ice baths, training and just prioritise some self care for a while.
“I’ve kind of been cracking on, running on auto pilot. Life goes on, we have to keep moving especially when we have kids to show up for. ‘m gonna keep all Norman and Ollie’s toys for a while in the playroom and their beds. Sending lots of love to anyone who’s going through the loss of a pet. It’s horrible. But it’s the price we have to pay for loving them so much.”
