Disney+ has just released its new series Dream Productions, a spin-off of one of Pixar’s most successful films and it appears to address fan theories about a ‘Goth Riley’ and the potential for an Inside Out 3.
The beloved animation, already graced with a sequel this year, now ventures into TV territory.
This fresh addition delves deeper into the imaginative realm inside main character Riley’s head, focusing on the beings responsible for crafting her dreams.
It must be noted that below you will find minor spoilers concerning Dream Productions, including details about its setting, its connection to Inside Out, and what it reveals about a teenage Riley.

On social media, fans have circulated an image featuring the evolutionary stages of Riley: her as a toddler, in pre-teen form as depicted in Inside Out, and a more mature teen sporting green hair, captioned, “Me, Myself and Ri”, reports .
One devotee eagerly shared, “I need this poster in HD. Also, GOTH RILEY IS A THING!” as another, speculating about what it could mean, added: “I feel like this poster may be evidence that Dream Productions is set a bit further in the future from Inside Out 2, in the Inside Out timeline! Riley’s style, especially her hair, look amazing!”
In fact, the spin-off series Dream Productions is set between the two Inside Out films, just before the new emotions introduced in the sequel take up residence at Riley HQ. The image is a spoof movie poster inspired by Riley’s dreams, which are depicted as grand cinematic productions.

Inside Out 2 primarily explores Riley’s transition into adolescence and her navigation of more complex emotions. The four-part Disney+ show frequently hints that she is ‘nearly 13.’
The series continues to explore themes of leaving childhood behind, featuring a teen Riley character in one of her dreams.
‘Goth Riley’ is based on a sketch Riley created as an idealised version of her teenage self. While a potential sequel could feature a similar look, her appearance for a third film could still evolve.
Neither Pixar nor Disney have officially announced Inside Out 3. However, given the second film’s global box office success exceeding $1 billion, it seems a likely prospect.
Fans speculate that we might follow Riley through high school and possibly even college, echoing a narrative arc from a later Toy Story film. This aligns with director Kelsey Mann’s comments about the potential project.
She revealed to Empire: “But people are excited for seeing Riley’s life – her whole life. They want to see Riley grow up. There are so many great ideas that we weren’t able to get into this film, or the original. I really hope those ideas have a home one day.”
As for what’s next for Dream Productions, there’s ample opportunity for a second season to unfold within the same timeline, or even bridge the gap between Inside Out 2 and a potential third instalment, should it receive the go-ahead.
