All four UK countries can expect to see flurries of on the morning of December 25, as some households may wake up to a magical blanket of white.

At 6am on the big day, heavy snow fall in western Scotland is predicted with up to 25cm of settled powder on the ground. The north of England, Wales and parts of Northern Ireland will see 5cm of snow.

According to weather maps from WXCharts, Birmingham and Manchester can expect 5cm per hour of snowfall, however, the south of England, including the capital, will see a fairly dry Christmas morning.

Later into the day, snow is still expected to fall in Inverness and across patches of England and northern Wales. The flurries narrowly miss London, but reach down to Cambridge at 12pm. Patchy rain will follow the snow, with Manchester and Newcastle seeing showers at midday.

Accompanying the showery weather is freezing temperatures as the entire nation is plunged into brutal Arctic conditions. Weather maps for minimum temperatures at midday on the 25th turn icy blue, as Scotland will face the brunt of the chilly feel.

Reaching down to -7C in western Scotland, the freezing temperatures echo that of our northern European counterparts. For England, the majority of the country faces 1-2C, with a high of 4C in Norfolk. Wales will follow this with 0-3C figures, as Northern Ireland remains largely above freezing at 2-3C.

The shows that unsettled conditions appear for most people across the country, with spells of wind and showers affecting the northern parts of the nation.

Sleet and slow is also “likely”, according to the weather forecaster’s long range forecast, especially on higher ground.

Later into the month, there are signs of more settled conditions at times, yet this brings a risk of frost and fog – this is perhaps most likely across the south of England late in December or into early January.
