BBC Breakfast’s Jon Kay snubs guest as he says ‘not talking about you’

BBC Breakfast’s Jon Kay was distracted during Wednesday’s show as he introduced a special guest onto the sofa.

A labradoodle puppy has been helping a charity, working to try and get rid of the stigma of people needing support around the crisis during the festive period.

The dog, called Bowie, was live in the studio alongside his owner Ollie Foster and charity Chief Executive Keely Dalfin. Addressing them all, Jon said: “What a cutie!”

Giggling at the presenter’s comment, Jon clarified: “Not talking about you Ollie! He [the dog] is absolutely gorgeous. He’s been so good since he came in. He’s smiling.”

As the dog looked into the camera, Sally added: “He is actually smiling Jon, look.”

Speaking more about the work they do, the hosts wanted to know how much of a difference it makes having Bowie assist him. Ollie replied: “He’s an absolute dream, when I started working for the Brick [charity] he was just accompanying me in the van, he was just my work dog.

“But, the effects you see he has on the people when you’re delivering to them. It distracts them in a way from the purpose of why I’m there.”

Ollie told Jon and Sally a lot of the time people will want to come out and see the dog when he’s out on delivery runs. Brick is a Wigan-based charity that is taking surplus goods that have been donated by businesses to families in the area.

Jon added: “It takes away the stigma because, for some people you turning up and offering help, especially at Christmas time, they might be a bit embarrassed.”

Agreeing, Ollie continued: “Yeah and there’s not a reason to be embarrassed, a lot of people are suffering hardship not just at this difficult time but throughout the whole year.”

Bowie’s owner highlighted the dog’s importance as a distraction to some people during their delivery as their main focus is on him.

Speaking more about the charity, Keely explained they give out a range of items from bedding, cutlery, toys and toiletries. However, during the interview, it seemed Bowie was getting irritable.

Letting out a huge yawn, Jon commented: “Oh sorry, we keeping you up Bowie? Sorry about that.” Laughing, Sally added: “We’re boring you!”

The host realised why Bowie was given his name after looking at the dog’s eyes, which were two different colours like the infamous singer. As Jon and Sally complimented how well-trained he was, Ollie confessed he had treats on hand.

Jon said: “He does seem really, really good!” Ollie replied: “Yeah for 11 months he’s doing really well.”

Sally was taken aback to learn Bowie was still a puppy as she added: “He’s only 11 months old?! He’s a baby. I think he wants to go for a little walk.”

Breakfast continues weekdays on One from 6am.
