The ambitious 20-year project has been approved by Tendring District Council in September and promises to transform housing, infrastructure, and flood defences.

Andy Baker, cabinet member for housing and planning, called the plan “an ambitious but clear long-term vision for to improve the area for the good of all”.

The Jaywick Sands Place Plan outlines immediate improvements, described as “quick wins,” to kickstart the transformation.

These include making Brooklands a one-way street to ease traffic, improving beach access, and upgrading parks, playgrounds, and bus stops.

Housing is another major focus. The plan aims to rejuvenate unused plots, upgrade existing homes, and address long-standing housing issues, reported.

Jaywick’s location on the coast also makes flood protection a top priority.

Of the £126 million budget, £108 million will be used to build stronger flood defences to safeguard the community from rising sea levels and erosion.

“The plans are not something we can deliver alone, either in terms of cost or powers – but it is a document we can take to public and private investors,” Mr Baker added.

The council hopes the redevelopment will not only transform Jaywick Sands but also serve as an example for other towns facing similar challenges across the UK.

The project is set to be completed by 2044.
