Comedian Lucy Beaumont’s life off-screen from famous mum to shock husband split

Lucy Beaumont has been a familiar face on television for over a decade, thanks to her numerous TV appearances and stand-up performances.

The 41-year-old comedian from Hull is best known for her role in Meet the Richardsons, where she starred alongside her former husband, playing a fictionalised version of herself. The show, which ran for five series, seemingly concluded after the couple’s split in April 2024, with Jon leaving Lucy more than £1 million in a settlement.

The talented comic has also graced shows such as Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled, panel show QI, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Have I Got News For You, Taskmaster and The Wheel.

Lucy Beaumont’s early life and career

Born and bred in Hull, Lucy pursued drama at the University of Hull while working as a teaching assistant. After graduation, she struggled to land steady acting roles and ended up cleaning at her alma mater.

Transitioning from local acting to comedy, Lucy’s observational humour about life in Hull won her widespread acclaim. Her career took off when she bagged the New Comedy Award and Chortle Award for Best Newcomer, and was later nominated for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe’s Best Newcomer Award.

She penned To Hull and Back for Radio 2 and narrated the 2018 documentary Hull’s Headscarf Heroes, which tells the story of Lillian Bilocca and the 1968 Triple Trawler Disaster.

Lucy Beaumont has graced our screens on a plethora of shows including Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled, the brain-teasing panel show QI, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Have I Got News For You, Taskmaster and The Wheel.

However, it was her stint in the mockumentary Meet the Richardsons with her comedian husband Jon Richardson that truly catapulted her into the limelight. Her portrayal of herself across 45 episodes earned her a coveted Bafta nomination.

While she’s made waves on television, Lucy’s heart lies in stand-up comedy, as evidenced by her recent tour success, which saw dates added all the way to December.

Who is Lucy Beaumont’s famous mother?

Lucy’s mother is award-winning playwright Gill Adams, who clinched an Edinburgh Fringe Festival accolade in 1997 for best new play.

Gill’s illustrious career spans TV and radio, contributing to hits like , Doctors, Band of Gold, and even appearing as a fictionalised version of herself in Meet the Richardsons, where her witty remarks had audiences in stitches.

Her mother’s dedication and achievements have been a beacon of inspiration for Lucy, who grew up witnessing first-hand the fruits of creative labour. “It never feels that bad because you sort of do it in fits and starts,” Lucy reflects.

“Once you’ve done teaching and 40-hour weeks, you just feel so grateful. It feels like a real honour doing this sort of job. You’re just trying to make people laugh.”

Marriage split with comedian husband

Lucy Beaumont and Jon Richardson’s romance began after being introduced by their comedian friend Roisin Conaty. After dating for two years, the couple exchanged vows in April 2015.

Their daughter, Elsie, was born in 2016 via an emergency C-section – a harrowing experience that left Lucy fearing for her life.

The comedic duo announced the end of their nine-year marriage in April 2024, leaving fans stunned given their high-profile relationship and joint TV ventures.

When questioned about the split in September, Lucy graciously declined to comment.

“People might think I should talk about it because we were so public and everyone knew us as a couple, but I won’t, and not because there’s any animosity,” she explains. “We both agreed that while it might be weird for other people not hearing anything about it, we wouldn’t talk about anything to do with the marriage or each other.”

As part of their divorce settlement, Jon transferred a staggering £1.625 million to Lucy in exchange for her shares in their jointly-owned company, This Guy at Night Limited. Additionally, Jon paid £8,125 in stamp duty to after acquiring Lucy’s stake.

According to Companies House records, the business still boasts a substantial value of £4 million.

Lucy and Jon remain co-owners of a luxurious £1 million detached property in Yorkshire, complete with a swimming pool. They also jointly own a luxurious North London flat valued at £1 million.
