Hairy Bikers star about how the death of his best friend and co-star, Dave Myers, still impacts him daily. Appearing on I, to plug his new documentary, the star explained how he still celebrates his good friend’s life.

Explaining to GMB hosts, and Richard Madeley, what Dave was really like, Si said: “He was braver than me in the sense that he would get dressed up. Like he did .”

Susanna added: “I was lucky enough to do it his year and he was terrific. He was so entertaining.” Si continued: “That’s exactly it, Susanna. You always got a heart-sought performance with Dave.”

Richard asked: “You said he will always, always be your best friend. Do you still talk to him?” The Hairy Biker repsonded in jest as he said: “Well I nearly rang him up the other day. I haven’t heard from him in yonks!”

“It’s just that reflex,” he continued a bit more seriously. With emotion in his voice, the TV star and chef added: “We were both each others reference points because of our friendship together… and yeah, I’m always chatting to him.

“The energy of Dave remains. It remains with us all. He was just fun, he just loved his life and performing and doing what he did.

“I think we both thought ourselves very privileged because we’re two working class lads from the North and we never took that for granted.”

It commemorates a special friendship that would change cookery shows forever.

In memory of the late TV star who died from cancer in February at the age of 66, the programme follows the 45,000 plus bikes that joined Si on a memorial journey from London to Dave’s hometown of Barrow-in-Furness in June this year.

The emotional ride was Si King’s last as a Hairy Biker as he closes the chapter on an incredible 25 years of memories with his biking brother.
