‘Here’s why an iconic I’m A Celebrity trial should be banned during the final’

Ant and Dec blasted by I'm A Celebrity fans as they say 'this is hard to watch'

The final is here, which means the three remaining campmates will take on their final Bushtucker trial of the series.

On their final day in camp, the celebrities must take part in one final challenge to win a luxury meal for that evening. Up for grabs are starters, mains, deserts, drinks and treats for the campmates.

In recent years the rules were slightly altered, meaning the campmates participate in the challenge to win each other’s meals rather than their own, giving them even more ammunition to finish the trial successfully.

And there is one stomach-churning challenge that is often featured in the final episode – and that’s the eating trial.

We have been lucky enough to witness two eating trials in this series. The first featured new arrivals Richard Coles and Maura Higgins, who were taking part to win portions of the junk food buffet.

Richard signed up for the second one, but this time he was joined by Tulisa, with the pair walking away with all stars available.

While the eating trial is no doubt one of my favourites, I think it should be featured more throughout the series instead of the final – and here’s why.

It’s strange how much satisfaction we get as viewers watching the celebrities chow down on a three course meal after living off rations for three weeks.

However, the eating trial means the unlucky celebrity who has to take part already has a full belly when they sit down to eat their first proper meal in weeks.

Speaking on I’m A Celebrity Unpacked after the first eating trial of the series, last year’s winner Sam Thompson revealed he couldn’t fully enjoy his steak due to how his stomach felt after taking part in the eating trial.

The former Made In Chelsea star, 32, took on a gruesome food challenge that saw him eat a camel’s penis, a fish eye, a scorpion, a witchetty grub and a pig’s vagina – five things you don’t want to swallow before tackling a three course meal, plus a treat.

So this suggestion is primarly for the campmates’ benefits, because I for one thoroughly enjoy watching them almost throw up whilst eating questionable parts of an animal.
