The actress who plays Shona Platt in has defended her character’s shocking new affair on the ITV soap.
This week, viewers discovered that Shona (Julia Goulding) had a tryst with corrupt policeman Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) after uncovering her husband David’s (Jack P. Shepherd) deceit.
Fans will remember that David has been manipulating and lying to Shona for the past month to prevent her from seeing her son Clayton (Callum Harrison), a criminal who killed David’s previous wife Kylie (Paula Lane) in 2016 and reached out to Shona from prison this year.
David intercepted by hiding letters and deleting emails from Shona’s laptop, leading to Shona discovering that Clayton had attempted suicide, which left her devastated. However, David remained silent about his involvement for weeks.
This week, though, Shona learned the truth and was livid. A heated argument ensued, but Shona was arrested earlier in the day for assaulting a prison governor.

After being questioned by Kit, Shona was released and instead of going home, she hit the town. In Friday’s episode (December 6), it was evident that Shona was concealing something significant, reports . And in a dramatic turn of events at the end of the episode, it was revealed that Shona had spent the night with Kit.
viewers were left in turmoil when Shona aroused havoc, leading one agitated fan to post on social media: “Why ruin Shona and David? They are a couple I really like.” Another exclaimed: “SHONA WHY TF WOULD YOU DO THAT!?” However, actress Julia Goulding defended her character’s actions.
In a conversation with Plymouth Live and other media, Julia stood by Shona, stating: “I’m definitely on her side in all of this. He’s [David] been gaslighting her, he’s hidden the visiting orders. And I think it’s out of pure revenge. I don’t think she’s necessarily been lusting after Kit, I don’t think he’s really crossed her radar. She’s very loyal, it’s absolute revenge.”

Julia further illuminated on David’s deceit: “He’s been using her brain injury against her, and also sorry, this is not the 1950s, a woman is allowed to make her own decisions and not have her husband hide her mail from her.”
She continued to reveal that Shona’s fiery tryst with Kit was not just a single slip-up but hinted at further clandestine meetings, notably a hotel rendezvous in up-and-coming scenes. As for Shona’s potential for an ongoing affair, Julia quipped: “Well, I mean have you seen him!”
Commenting on the likelihood of an affair, Julia cheekily remarked: “Would she have an affair? I suppose it depends on how good that night was! I think because it was revenge, she’s obviously tempted because she goes back to the hotel room so, it must have been a really good night! She pops her anorak on and off she goes!”
