Antonio was taken to a central London hospital following the single-car collision near Theydon Bois, Essex. The news was confirmed by West Ham United after images on social media purported to show the he was driving at the time of the accident.

Essex Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward with any information they might have about the crash, which took place shortly after midday on Saturday.
