The station is located in the middle of a lake
Okuoikojo station first opened on October 20 1990, when part of the Ikawa Line was re-routed to avoid the rising waters of the lake that was created by the Nagashima Dam.
It was initially constructed to transport materials for the building process of the dam, but then because of its remarkable location it was decided that the station should be added to the line.
The station has one side platforms that serve a single track and the platform partially extends into an amazing bridge that spans the reservoir.
